Waters reopen to recreational Gulf fishermen

GULF OF MEXICO — The Mississippi Sound has been opened to catch-and-release recreational fishing.

The opening took effect at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday. It includes live bait shrimping.

Commercial fishing remains closed.

Tiny Chataginer, chief of law enforcement for the Department of Marine Resources, says no fish can be possession in the closed areas.

He says that includes transporting fish by boat. He says anglers who go to Louisiana waters to fish cannot transport the fish back to Mississippi.
