Baptist will not appeal state’s hospital decision
OLIVE BRANCH — Baptist Memorial Healthcare says it won’t appeal the state’s approval of plans for a competing hospital in Olive Branch.
The deadline line to appeal the state decision was yesterday. Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare has plans for a 100-bed hospital in eastern DeSoto County.
The Commercial Appeal reports that Baptist Memorial had opposed past bids by Methodist, but announced Tuesday it wouldn’t attempt to halt the project.
David Baytos, a senior executive at Methodist Le Bonheur, says a timeline for the project will be established once the construction team is hired. Tentative plans call for the $137 million hospital to be ready for use by 2013.
