Developer eyeing mall, former grocery store

VICKSBURG — A Houston-based developer says he’s in the process of purchasing Pemberton Square mall and a nearby structure formerly used by the Kroger grocery store.

Andy Weiner, president of Weiner Development, told city officials the deal hinged on approval of a 75-square-foot sign he wants to put up at the site. The sign’s size is more than double what’s allowed by a city ordinance, but the Vicksburg Board of Zoning Appeals approved the request.

The Vicksburg Post reports that Weiner says the sign will help pull traffic from nearby Interstate 20. Weiner says he expects the purchase deals to be completed by September. He says new tenants are likely at the site.
