Gohl: ARC committed to bringing more growth

NORTH MISSISSIPPI — The new chairman of the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) says encouraging economic growth throughout its 13-state region remains a priority.

Earl Gohl met with the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal editorial board this week as part of a tour of ARC counties in the state.

Gohl had earlier presented a $350,000 grant for infrastructure partnership in Pontotoc at Southern Motion’s $7-million plant expansion.

He says Mississippi and Kentucky remain the most prosperity-challenged states in ARC.

The commission was founded in 1965 during the administration of President Lyndon B. Johnson to improve conditions in the high-poverty Appalachian region.
