School board votes in Hub City tax hike

HATTIESBURG — Hattiesburg Public School District Board of Trustees has voted to increase the ad valorem tax millage rate by 3.25 mills.

The hike approved 5-0 yesterday will boost the millage rate from 51.75 mills to 55 mills.

The board is requesting the city levy a millage high enough to raise just over $16 million for the school district.

The Hattiesburg American reports a millage increase of 3.25 mills would raise property taxes on a house assessed at $200,000 by $65.
