Senators recommend Reeves for bench

Senators Thad Cochran and Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) appeared before the Senate Judiciary Committee to introduce and recommend Carlton Reeves of Jackson to be a U.S. District Court Judge for the Southern District of Mississippi.

The Senate Judiciary Committee conducted a confirmation hearing on Reeves, who was nominated in April by President Obama for the federal judicial post.  The committee will determine whether to recommend Reeves’ confirmation to the full Senate.

Reeves is a cofounder and partner in the law firm of Pigott Reeves Johnson, P.A., in Jackson. He earned his undergraduate degree from Jackson State University and his law degree from the University of Virginia. He has served as a clerk and staff attorney for the Mississippi Supreme Court, and was the chief of the Civil Division in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Mississippi.
