TVA power bills to rise — again

NORTH MISSISSIPPI — For the seventh consecutive month, Tennessee Valley Authority customers will pay an increased fuel cost in September.

The utility said in a posting on its website that compared to August, residential bills will increase between $1 and $3, depending on usage levels.

The 2 percent increase is due to decreased hydro generation in July and higher than normal temperatures forcing TVA to rely on more costly resources. In July, TVA’s sales were 9 percent higher than forecast and fuel costs for July were 25 percent higher than forecast.

The fuel cost increases total about 22 percent since March.

The utility supplies power to nearly nine million consumers in Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, Kentucky, Georgia, North Carolina and Virginia.
