Cochran wants to review Gulf restoration plan

WASHINGTON — Sen. Thad Cochran (R-Miss.) has issued the following statement regarding the recommendations presented by the Gulf Coast Restoration Commission headed by Navy Secretary Ray Mabus:

“I recognize that these recommendations represent the first step in a process to implement a long-term Gulf Coast recovery plan. I want to review the report and determine how I can help enact the legislation needed to structure, authorize and fund this initiative. Mississippi and other affected states, I believe, would be best served with a broad restoration program that takes its cues from the people, communities and states along the Gulf Coast rather than from the federal government. I look forward to working with my colleagues and the administration to move this process forward.”
