Community colleges see another record enrollment
ACROSS MISSISSIPPI — Mississippi’s community colleges are continuing to experience record enrollment. Preliminary credit enrollment for the fall of 2010 is up to 88,800 students. That is an increase of nearly 6,000 students, or 7.2 percent, compared to a year ago.
Dr. Eric Clark, executive director of the State Community College Board, said, “Mississippians realize the importance of being educated and are enrolling at our community colleges in record numbers. The 7.2 percent increase shown in the preliminary figures from today is on top of a 14.3 percent increase from fall 2008 to fall 2009. Community colleges offer Mississippi students an excellent education that is affordable and close to home. It is my hope that our state’s leaders will recognize this great contribution and provide the support necessary for our community colleges when preparing our state budget next year.”
