State’s second entertainment district unveiled

TUPELO — The state’s second official entertainment district will be in Tupelo.
Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann joined city leaders to make the announcement Friday.
The site will be located at the Elvis Presley birthplace.
Meridian was named Mississippi’s first entertainment district in July.
Hosemann says the designation will provide incentives to developers looking to move into the Tupelo.
The program was created by the Legislature in 2009.
The program allows a local government to create an entertainment district in which businesses that sell tickets can get tax breaks for new or renovated venues. The venue would depreciate in five years compared to the normal 40 years.
The participating businesses must add a $2 fee to their tickets for five years.
