Tennessee plant remains closed after fire

ALCOA, Tenn. — The hot rolling mill at the Alcoa plant in Blount County is closed after a weekend fire.

Alcoa spokeswoman Christy Newman told The Knoxville News Sentinel the damage to the building is being assessed. She did not yet know how long it would take to repair the mill and get it running again.

Newman said workers from the hot rolling mill have been assigned to other parts of the plant.

A fire broke out in the rafters of the mill at about 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. The hot rolling mill is where aluminum ingots are made into aluminum sheets.

The employees were evacuated and no one was injured.
