Hinds Co. seeks federal funds to redevelop US 80

JACKSON — Hinds County is applying for a $400,000 grant from the federal government to help redevelop the U.S. 80 and Mississippi 18 corridors.
The money from the Environmental Protection agency would assist crews in identifying land along the highways that is contaminated by industrial waste or other toxic matter.
Blake Wallace, executive director of the Hinds County Economic Development District, tells The Clarion-Ledger that moving forward with cataloging contaminated land could help potential developers eliminate a bureaucratic step in the process.
Beautifying and rebuilding U.S. 80 into a commercial artery has been a long-discussed issue in the county and city of Jackson.
