Waide to announce political intentions in December

JACKSON — Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation president David Waide says he’ll announce Dec. 6 whether he’s running for governor or any other statewide office.

That’s the day Waide will end his 14 years as head of the politically influential group that has about 205,000 member families.

Waide has been mentioned as a possible 2011 candidate for governor, lieutenant governor or agriculture commissioner. All three jobs will be open next year because Gov. Haley Barbour is term limited, Lt. Gov. Phil Bryant is expected to run for governor and Agriculture Commissioner Lester Spell isn’t seeking re-election.

Waide was asked about his political plans yesterday as he delivered the federation’s petitions that seek to put eminent domain restrictions on the 2011 statewide ballot.
