Harrah’s in Tunica to lay off nearly 200
TUNICA — Harrah’s Entertainment Inc. says it will eliminate nearly 200 jobs at its Horseshoe Casino & Hotel in Tunica.
That’s about 5 percent of the 4,000 employees at the properties.
Harrah’s is citing a decline in the casino industry as the reason for cutting a variety of jobs, from senior management to hotel and restaurant employees. R. Scott Barber, regional president of Harrah’s, says the company sees no immediate reversal in the industry decline.
The Memphis Business Journal reports Harrah’s is also outsourcing the entire housekeeping staff at the Horseshoe. The 150 housekeepers are not being laid off but are being hired, with benefits, by The Service Cos., based in Miami Lakes, Fla.
