JACKSON – Mississippi’s state-licensed casinos reported revenue of $191.5 million in October, down about $2 million from the same month last year.
The casinos reported revenues of $193.5 million in September 2009.
However, the take from gamblers was up from the $191.2 million that the 30 casinos along the Gulf Coast and the Mississippi River won from players in August.
The figures do not include the state’s Indian tribal casinos, which are not required to report their winnings to the public.
“Win” is a gross figure, with no operating costs or other expenses deducted. It is casino revenue only and doesn’t include hotel, restaurant or bar revenues generated by the resorts.
The Mississippi Department of Revenue reported Tuesday that the 11 South Mississippi casinos won $88.1 million in October, which is $2 million more than in October 2009.
For the 19 casinos on the Mississippi River that stretch from Natchez to Tunica, revenue was $2 million less than last year at $103.5 million.
The Mississippi Department of Revenue reports gaming revenue on a calendar year basis.
Gaming taxes are reported on the state’s fiscal year, which runs from July 1 to June 30.
For the first four months of the fiscal year, gaming taxes totaled $94 million, compared to $94.9 million in collections for the same period a year ago.
