City Council changes liquor sales ordinance

PASCAGOULA — The Pascagoula City Council has tweaked a local liquor ordinance to allow sales on city property along the riverfront where restaurants have been proposed.

The Mississippi Press reports the council voted 4-3 Tuesday to approve the change.

The ordinance previously did not allow the sale or consumption of alcohol in public areas throughout the city and that included businesses that lease city property, even if they had a state permit.

City attorney Eddie Williams says the change requires developers who lease city property to apply for a permit.

Williams says the new ordinance will take effect in 30 days.
