WAVELAND — Officials in Waveland have put a hold on plans for a $6-million marina project.
The Sun-Herald reports that Mayor David Garcia and the Board of Aldermen in Waveland plan to meet soon with state officials and an engineering firm to discuss whether the project should be continued. The mayor said some Waveland residents are questioning the need for the project. Garcia himself questioned the wisdom of increasing a tax millage to support a marina when the city’s library is underfunded.
Garcia said at a Dec. 22 board meeting that if the marina project is scrapped it’s possible a state department won’t force the city to repay a community development block grant that has been used to pay engineers for designs, surveys and environmental studies.
