TUPELO — Lee County supervisors say they will appeal a judge’s order that approved the city of Tupelo’s annexation of about 16 square miles of unincorporated area.
Chancery Judge Edward C. Prisock approved the annexation in November.
The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reports that county supervisors approved the appeal Dec. 6. The appeal will be filed with the Mississippi Supreme Court.
Board of Supervisors president Darrell Rankin says the board opposes the annexation for several reasons including questions about whether Tupelo can provide needed services in the area.
City attorney Guy Mitchell called the move regrettable.
