State does not lose or gain seats in Congress

ACROSS MISSISSIPPI — Mississippi neither loses or gains a congressional seat based on the newly released U.S. Census figures.

The state’s population only increased by 122,639 over the last decade. The U.S. Census Bureau released figures from the 2010 count on Tuesday.

Some states, including Texas, Georgia and South Carolina has population growth that resulted in congressional gains. Others, including Louisiana, lost a seat.

After the 2000 Census, Mississippi lost one of its five U.S. House seats because population growth was slower than many other states during the 1990s.
