After an intense five-day exam, 10 sommeliers from around the nation, including Beau Rivage’s Mark Warren, successfully passed the Court of Master Sommeliers’ Advanced Exam.
Held at The Little Nell in Aspen, the Advanced Exam is the third in a series of four increasingly challenging tests of knowledge and skill offered by the Court, and is designed to distinguish those candidates with a superior understanding of wine theory and beverage service, as well as a highly sophisticated tasting ability.
While there are currently 2,481 candidates eligible to sit for Advanced, only 398 individuals have successfully completed it. Having conquered this hurdle, Warren has the prestigious distinction of being Mississippi’s only Advanced Level sommelier and one of only a handful in this region of the country.
Warren studied extensively for one year before taking the Court’s three-part Advanced Exam, which includes written theory; theory and service; and tasting.
As Beau Rivage’s wine program manager and sommelier, Warren oversees a wine list of more than 350 selections.
