WASHINGTON — In the wake of the shooting in Arizona that wounded Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, Sen. Thad Cochran (R-Miss.) says he is not requesting additional security, at least not yet.
In a statement, Cochran said, “I am deeply saddened by the violence that struck Rep. Giffords, her staff and constituents. My prayers are with all the victims and their families.
“I have not requested any additional security for myself. We have been advised to take prudent action to be aware of our surroundings and of possible threats. I will follow the advice of the U.S. Capitol Police, who are currently assessing whether changes are needed to help ensure the safety of members of Congress, their staff members and constituents.”
