Man to wait to hear sentence for Katrina bribery

GREENE COUNTY — A sentencing hearing has been delayed until March for a businessman who pleaded guilty in a federal bribery scheme to get Hurricane Katrina cleanup contracts.

Thomas Landon, owner of Mid-South Pipe, was accused of bribing Greene County supervisors to get debris removal contracts after the 2005 storm.

Former Greene County supervisor Lee Lambert was acquitted in the case. Landon testified that he arranged a deal with Lambert wherein Lambert would receive kickbacks if Landon was awarded the contract.

Greene County Supervisor Earnest Holder was convicted of tax evasion in August and acquitted of some charges.

Landon was indicted on six charges including bribery. Sentencing is now set for March 10.
