Young retiring as president of SMCC

SUMMIT — Southwest Mississippi Community College president Oliver Young will retire when his contract expires in June.

The 70-year-old Young has been president of the two-year school for six years.

Board president Hollis Alford tells the Enterprise-Journal that the process will begin to find a new president.

Young has spent 44 years in education, including 33 at Southwest

Young graduated from Southwest in 1963 and from Mississippi College in 1965. He has a master’s degree from Mississippi State University and a doctorate from the University of Mississippi.

He came to Southwest in 1966 as an assistant to then-president Horace Holmes.
