Furniture company penalized by OSHA

OKOLONA — An furniture company faces about $66,000 in proposed fines following an investigation by the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

OSHA said in a new release today that it found 18 violations — including one repeat violation — at United Furniture Industries Inc. of Okolona.

The alleged violations include: failing to label feeder and branch electrical circuits; failing to provide railings on stairs; locked, unmarked and inadequate exits; damaged fire extinguishers; and, allowing safety devices to be removed from nail guns.

The company has 15 days to contest the findings.
