Landon's sentencing for bribery postponed

GREENE COUNTY — A sentencing hearing has been delayed until April 27 for a businessman who pleaded guilty in a federal bribery scheme to get Hurricane Katrina cleanup contracts.

Thomas Landon, owner of Mid-South Pipe, was accused of bribing Greene County supervisors to get debris removal contracts after the 2005 storm.

Former Greene County supervisor Lee Lambert was acquitted in the case. Landon testified that he arranged a deal with Lambert wherein Lambert would receive kickbacks if Landon was awarded the contract.

Greene County Supervisor Earnest Holder was convicted of tax evasion and acquitted of some charges.

Prosecutor Ruth Morgan asked for a delay of the March sentencing because it was scheduled the same day as the re-sentencing of former attorney Paul Minor and two former judges in a judicial corruption case.
