Aircraft company moving operations from Arkansas
TUPELO — A company that dissembles wide-body commercial aircraft at the Walnut Ridge Airport in Walnut Ridge, Ark., is moving much of its operation to Mississippi.
The Jonesboro Sun reports that Memphis, Tenn.-based Universal Asset Management will move the operation to Tupelo because the 747s and other large aircraft are causing significant damage to runways, ramps and taxiways. The company is also moving warehouses in Arkansas at Pocahontas and Walnut Ridge.
It is not clear whether UAM will continue its small-body aircraft disassembly operations in Walnut Ridge. Mayor Don House told the newspaper he would meet with company officials to discuss its future in Northeast Arkansas.
The number of jobs affected was not released and UAM officials did not return phone calls seeking comment.
