OCEAN SPRINGS — A group of Ocean Springs residents say they are opposed to a proposed boutique hotel.
Jane Boyd Beaugez told the Board of Aldermen yesterday the proposed hotel would go fine in Biloxi, but not in downtown Ocean Springs.
The Sun Herald reports that neighbors were concerned that the hotel would not fit in with the character of downtown. Several also expressed that it would further agitate parking issues in the area.
The city purchased the land in August for $286,000 as part of its downtown streetscape project using a Community Development Block Grant.
Mayor Connie Moran said the CDBG program allows for community revitalization projects such as the hotel and that the parking lot was only a suggested use for the space.
