JACKSON — A federal judge is scheduled to hold a re-sentencing hearing in the judicial corruption case of imprisoned Mississippi attorney Paul Minor and two former judges in Jackson.
U.S. District Judge Henry Wingate will hold the hearing for the trio today.
Minor and former Harrison County judges Wes Teel and John Whitfield must be re-sentenced because a federal appeals court vacated their bribery convictions in 2009. The appeals court upheld honest services fraud convictions against each of the men and Minor’s racketeering conviction.
Minor’s attorneys have also asked the court to throw out the trio’s remaining convictions, based on recent court rulings that limit the scope of honest services fraud.
