PONTOTOC — Washington Furniture Sales expects to be in is new upholstery plant in 30 days.
Washington Furniture bought the 370,000-square-foot plant, used by Lane to produce recliners until closing in mid-2008, in February. It has been undergoing renovations.
The Lane facility was closed by parent company FBI as part of a corporate consolidation and belt-tightening.
Washington Furniture’s new facility will house sofa, loveseat and recliner operations, the same as the current plant, but will allow the company to expand the number of styles it produces.
“We wanted to move into a nicer facility,” company owner Gerald Washington told the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal. “We hope to begin production within six weeks.”
Washington Furniture has about 100 workers in Pontotoc. Washington said plans are to grow to 400 workers in the next two years, depending on business.
Washington also bought the former Hickory Springs plant and will use it to supply foam for the furniture plant, which is across the street.
