W&T Offshore: Reported oil sheen not coming from its platform

GULF OF MEXICO — W&T Offshore Inc. has responded to reports of an oil sheen in the Gulf of Mexico that was said to be near a W&T-operated platform in Mississippi Canyon block 243, or “Matterhorn.”

Following an onsite and aerial investigation, the Houston, Texas-based company said it determined that the source of the reported oil sheen was not the Matterhorn platform or any other nearby W&T operated facilities, as speculated in several media reports.

W&T Offshore is an independent oil and natural gas company that holds working interests in approximately 67 fields in federal and state waters.
