4-County customers participate in electricity demand program

COLUMBUS — Shuqualak Lumber, along with several other 4-County Electric Power Association commercial customers, is doing its part to curb peak demand for the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) and help keep electric prices affordable.

Shuqualak Lumber is part of a demand response program offered through 4-County and TVA. The program offers incentives to businesses that agree to cut power use during TVA’s highest peak demand times. The program, managed by EnerNOC, a demand response provider, has been in place since 2008 and Shuqualak Lumber was one of the earliest participants.

Shuqualak Lumber was recently recognized for its role in helping meet the growing electric demand and keeping electric prices down for people across the Tennessee Valley. Officials from 4-County, TVA and EnerNOC attended the reception.

Shuqualak Lumber is one of the largest privately-owned independent producers of southern yellow pine in the Southeast. Vice president Charlie Thomas III says his company is honored by the recognition.

4-County CEO/general manager Joe Cade says 4-County is committed to improving the quality of life for its members, including finding ways to help businesses in the Association’s service territory.
