EXPO’s oldest awards program honors young leaders
The Top 40 Under 40 Luncheon returns to the Mississippi Business & Technology EXPO with this year’s award ceremony to be held April 7 beginning at 11:30 a.m. at the Mississippi Trade Mart in Jackson.
Easily the Mississippi Business Journal’s longest-running recognition event, Top 40 Under 40 honors young leaders in Mississippi under the age of 40 who have significantly contributed to not only their profession, but also their community.
It remains one of the MBJ’s most coveted awards, and the luncheon has historically drawn a large, enthusiastic crowd.
At press time, Tami Jones, the MBJ’s advertising director, estimated this year’s crowd to be upwards of 350 attendees, but tickets were still on sale, and that number could grow, she added.
Because of the quality of the honorees, businesses have found the Top Under 40 Luncheon an attractive sponsorship opportunity. This year, the Ridgeland-based telecommunications company Cellular South is the sponsor, and BancorpSouth of Tupelo, the multi-state financial institution, is serving as a partner. Both organizations supported the Top 40 Under 40 Luncheon last year.
“The Top 40 Under 40 event is an excellent opportunity for Cellular South to support an important community activity and encourage future business and civic leaders in our state. One of our core values is continuous improvement and equipping our employees with the resources and opportunities to become future leaders in our company, the communities they live and work and in the wireless industry,” said Sherry Stegall, senior vice president for sales and customer operations at Cellular South. “Identifying and honoring our most dynamic and influential business and civic leaders helps create a culture in our state for professional development, excellence and community involvement and helps ensure that tomorrow’s leaders are equipped for the challenges ahead. At Cellular South, we’re impressed each year by the caliber and quality of the young leaders who are selected for recognition in this program and we look forward to this year’s honorees.”
David Barrentine, president Mid Mississippi Region, BancorpSouth, said. “BancorpSouth is proud to sponsor once again Mississippi Business Journal’s Top 40 Under 40. This prestigious event gives us an opportunity to recognize some of the best and brightest young people in Mississippi. One of the primary resources for this state’s economic growth is its next generation. We at BancorpSouth are proud of our colleagues being honored and congratulate all the winners.”
During the luncheon attendees will enjoy food catered by Jackson-based Mangia Bene Inc. and jazz by Jackson’s own Raphael Semmes.
The heart of the program will be the awards presentation. Each winner will be recognized with a video presentation and a plaque.
The MBJ will produce a Top 40 Under 40 special publication that will offer a biography of each winner and more information on the awards program. The publication is scheduled for released in April.
