GREENVILLE — A lawsuit challenging rent increases at apartments owned by the South Delta Regional Housing Authority has been settled.
The case was to go to trial in August in federal court in Greenville.
Mississippi Center for Justice, which represented the tenants, tells the Delta Democrat Times that the settlement terms are confidential.
The lawsuit was filed in 2009 after residents received notices that rent would more than double at housing units in Bolivar, Washington, Sunflower, Sharkey and Humphreys counties.
According to court documents, one-bedroom homes that rented for $60 per month went up to $240. Rents also went up on other properties.
The tenants complained that they were not properly notified of the rent increases.
