JACKSON — Entergy Mississippi Inc. has provided a report to the Mississippi Public Service Commission outlining the expected benefits of joining the Midwest Independent Transmission System Operator.
On April 25, the company announced its proposal to join MISO, a regional transmission organization serving 13 states.
Entergy Mississippi anticipates formally asking the MPSC for approval later this year to transfer operational control of its transmission facilities to MISO with a target implementation date of December 2013.
After extensive review and analysis, Entergy Mississippi said it has concluded that joining MISO is the best option for customers and will provide the greatest benefits. Projections show the net benefits for Entergy Mississippi’s customers as compared to the status quo ranging between $242 million and $284 million from 2013 to 2022 by joining MISO, primarily the result of a large and more efficient marketplace. The projected net benefits are the estimated production cost-related savings, minus increased administrative and transmission costs.
“Joining MISO is superior to every other option studied,” said Haley Fisackerly, president and CEO of Entergy Mississippi. “Our first duty is to provide our customers with reliable power at an affordable cost, and we’re confident that joining MISO will allow us to accomplish that mission. We’ll continue to work closely with the Mississippi Public Service Commission as we move forward.”
