New $3M asphalt plant to be built in Leflore Co.

GREENWOOD — Leflore County supervisors have agreed to sell 15 acres at a local industrial for a new asphalt plant that will bring up to 20 new jobs.

The Greenwood Commonwealth reports APAC-Mississippi proposed the $3 million project. Supervisors gave the company an option for five additional acres.

The Greenwood City Council must also approve the sale.

APAC bought J.J. Ferguson Sand & Gravel Co.’s asphalt plant along U.S. Highway 82 in February and tore it down and started looking for a new site.

APAC also operates asphalt plants in Indianola, Meridian and Greenville.

Brian Moore, who handles APAC’s environmental regulations, says the Ferguson plant was an old batch plant, while the new one will be a 2004 model drum-mix plant.
