Winds cause collapse of historic Red Barn

ROLLING FORK — The US Army Corps of Engineers, Vicksburg District (Corps) has been notified by local officials in Rolling Fork that the south wall of the structure commonly referred to as the Red Barn collapsed. This also caused the barn roof to collapse.

Corps historic preservation specialists, architects and archaeologists have been in consultation with the State Historic Preservation Office, National Advisory Council and Tribal Nations to produce an in depth historic properties management plan.

The Graft family built the 40-foot by 200-foot barn and twin silos in approximately 1918. Recent high winds and bad weather unfortunately impacted the structural integrity of the barn.

Although no injuries occurred, the Corps reminds the public that trespassing on the property is strictly forbidden, unknown hazards may exist on the property that may cause injury.
