MCCOMB — The City of McComb will include a notice in local water bills this month to remind voters of the tourism tax election on July 19.
The Enterprise-Journal reports Mayor Whitney Rawlings hopes the proceeds of the motel tax can be used to complete the McComb Sports Park.
A three-fifths majority vote — 60 percent — is required for the tax to pass.
It would levy a 2 percent tax on motels and restaurants in the city. Officials say the tax would bring in about $300,000 a year.
The city’s board of selected decided against including on the notice a message asking residents to vote for the motel tax.
