Delta airport lands FAA grant for new terminal

TUNICA — The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has approved a $1.01-million grant to support the construction of a new terminal building at the Tunica Municipal Airport.

The FAA grant is for Phase 1B of construction for the new terminal building, which is designed to support scheduled passenger service, as well as existing charter service and general aviation needs at the airport. The Tunica Municipal Airport is a general aviation airport.

“The new terminal will help establish the airport as an economic draw in the Delta,” said Sen. Thad Cochran (R-Miss.), who serves as vice chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee.

The grant funding is being awarded to Tunica County and the Tunica County Airport Commission. The grant is the second awarded for the terminal building project, which is planned as a 10,500-square-foot facility. Last June, the FAA awarded a $781,524 grant to the airport to support Phase 1A construction of the terminal building.
