Grand Station Casino finally opens as waters recede

VICKSBURG — Grand Station Casino, formerly Horizon and whose reopening was delayed by the Mississippi River flooding, opened yesterday in Vicksburg.

The Vicksburg Post reports about 350 employees will staff the facility, which plans a fine dining venue and a sports bar. The casino had closed in March for renovations.

Tropicana Entertainment Inc. sold the Horizon to Delta Investments & Development, LLC, a Nevada-incorporated company.

Horizon opened in November 1993 as Harrah’s. Columbia Sussex bought the casino in 2003 and renamed it Horizon. Tropicana acquired the casino in January 2010.

DiamondJacks Casino closed May 9 due to high water and hasn’t announced a reopening date. Rainbow Casino closed for nearly two weeks, then reopened May 27. Ameristar and Riverwalk built temporary floodwalls and have been open for business throughout the flood.
