Eminent Domain: Pro-Business… Or Not?

Eminent domain, the taking of land for development, has proven to be a heavily emotional and highly politicized talking point in Mississippi this year.

Staff writer Ted Carter will take a hard look at both sides of the issue in Monday’s edition of the MBJ.

Aldridge argues that eminent domain abuse while not widespread in Mississippi can pose a threat to small businesses and farmers thanks to recent national court rulings. Speed, a career developer who is currently serving as interim director for the Mississippi Development Authority, says eminent domain is a key part of Mississippi’s reputation as a “business-friendly state.”
