CORINTH — Solar energy will soon be powering Alcorn Career and Technology Center in Corinth.
Alcorn School District officials plan a ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday for the new solar array system.
Schools superintendent Stacy Suggs tells The Daily Corinthian that all major components of the 50 kilowatt ground mounted solar collection system are being installed this week. Suggs says the system will be connected into the local power grid after classes resume in the fall.
The system will also generate revenue for the school district. Through a TVA program, ACE Power will purchase the energy generated by the array for about 12 cents above regular rates.
With the system producing 79,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity each year the school district will earn approximately $17,000 in annual revenue.
