TVA bills to rise due to fuel cost adjustment

NORTH MISSISSIPPI — The Tennessee Valley Authority’s monthly fuel cost adjustment will raise average monthly bills for residential customers by up to $1 in August.

The utility said in a statement on its website that the increase is due mainly to higher expenses for coal and purchased power during June.

The increase follows the utility adding up to $6 to bills this month in response to the severe weather in late April.

Damage to TVA’s transmission system caused all three reactors at the Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant in North Alabama to be offline for much of May and the replacement power cost was almost $90 million.

About Megan Wright

  1. for a senior citizen on fixed income as we are, this tva fuel cost adjustment is ridiculous……………..
it is roughly 1/3 of our total bill…………………this is a travesty and i for one am checking to see if this
is totally legal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i believe nepa byhalia, ms is over assessing this fee to its customers

  2. My fuel adjustment cost for August was a little less than half my bill. I used 240.00 worth of electricity and I was charged 103.00 TVA fuel adjustment cost. I live in Olive Branch, MS. Is this a mistake? What percentage of the cost is TVA charging residents in Olive Branch? Is there anything we can do to decrease these charges. My total bill was 347.00. This is too much. I also pay electric bill for a property in Southaven, MS and the TVA fuel adjustment cost is usually less than 10.00. This is a huge difference. Olive Branch and Southaven are both in DeSoto County. Why is this difference so large?

  3. I am disabled and on a fixed income. My Fuel Cost Adjustment runs .355%. I’m talking an additional $85, $65, and $75 per month!

It’s a battle every month to come up with the extra money.
