GREENWOOD — The Greenwood Convention & Visitors Bureau board of directors has delayed final approval of the its proposed 2012 budget.
The board wants to see which events that get promotion money generate the most tourism business.
The bureau’s advertising assistance grant program, which helps defray the costs of out-of-town advertising for local events, is a $28,000 item in the bureau’s proposed $431,380 budget.
A board subcommittee proposed funding for 13 events, according to The Greenwood Commonwealth. However, a representative of lodging and restaurant interests said during this week’s meeting that some of those events draw more tourists than others. One member suggested that a system be established to weigh the economic effects of each event. The budget must be submitted to Greenwood’s City Council by Oct. 1.
