Health Department reports another West Nile virus case

HINDS COUNTY — The Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) reports one new human case of West Nile virus in Hinds County, bringing the state’s total to 15 for 2011.

So far this year, cases have been reported in Coahoma, Forrest (two), Hinds (three), Jones (three), Pearl River (four), Tallahatchie, and Wayne counties.

A previously reported Marion County case was removed due to additional testing.

One death has been reported in Jones County.

In 2010, Mississippi had eight WNV cases and no deaths.
