Hospital expansion project to get underway this year

PHILADELPHIA — Construction is expected to begin by Thanksgiving on a $19-million expansion of the Neshoba County General Hospital.

Plans are for a two-story structure adjacent to the existing hospital.

Hospital Administrator Lonnie Graeber tells The Neshoba Democrat that construction will be completed in two phases, the first being a completely new hospital just south of the current structure in the vicinity of the heliport.

Graeber says the second phase is a renovation of the current 50-year-old hospital to house obstetrics and gynecology offices, labor and delivery rooms and a nursery.

The hospital is using $14.7 million from its cash reserves and $4 million in federal funds for the first phase.

Graeber says the second phase will cost about $7 million.
