MEMA issues advisory on storm shelter grant program

PEARL — The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency is urging disaster victims to use caution if contacted by the National Storm Shelter Registry with offers of grant funds available to help fund the installation of a safe room.
MEMA is not affiliated with this program or similar non-FEMA safe room grant programs.
MEMA offered disaster survivors in certain counties the opportunity to apply for grant funds to reimburse a portion of the costs to install a safe room in their homes. The only way for Mississippi homeowners to receive MEMA or FEMA grant funds to help install a safe room is to apply directly through MEMA’s “A Safe Place to Go” program.
The registration period for this program closed July 31.
MEMA is currently reviewing applications submitted to its grant program and reminds applicants that they must follow program guidelines in order to qualify for reimbursement:
MEMA said it does not endorse particular safe room vendors or contractors and does not endorse the National Storm Shelter Registry, its grant program or other private grant programs.

Like so many government organizations, MEMA has an overinflated view of their own importance. thristthDoes anyone care whether they are affiliated with a specific program whether they endorse anything?
