ANS honors McGaha

Retired Entergy Nuclear South president John McGaha garnered top industry recognition at the 2011 American Nuclear Society (ANS) Utility Working Conference held in Hollywood, Fla. McGaha, who has more than 32 years of experience with Entergy’s nuclear program, received the prestigious ANS Utility Leadership Award.

Given only to a select group of industry leaders in recent years, McGaha’s career achievements at Entergy include his rise to president of the five nuclear units in its southern service area: two-units at Arkansas Nuclear One and single units at Grand Gulf Nuclear Station in Miss., and River Bend Station and Waterford 3 located in South Louisiana. McGaha has also served as a member of the board of the American Nuclear Society (2008-2011), as chair of the ANS-Utility Integration Oversight Committee (2007-2011) and worked many years on advisory committees for the Nuclear Energy Institute and the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations. McGaha is currently on the NUSCALE Advisory board for a new small modular reactor design and works part time as an independent consultant to the nuclear industry.

McGaha is a Tulane University graduate in electrical engineering and served on active duty in the U.S. Navy nuclear submarine program for five years. In 1994, he retired from the U.S. Naval Reserve with the rank of captain and resides in Ridgeland.
