SOUTH MISSISSIPPI — The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) has lifted an advisory for a section of the Pearl River in Pearl River County.
The section extended from Highway 26 near Poplarville south to I-59 near Nicholson.
MDEQ issued a water contact and a fish consumption advisory Aug. 14 due to a massive fish kill on the Pearl River near Bogalusa, La.
Analysis by MDEQ scientists of sampling conducted by MDEQ, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality and the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals indicates the area is safe for water contact recreation like swimming or wading and for consumption of fish and shellfish.
