FULTON — Volunteers gathered this past weekend to move The Cedars, of the oldest surviving dwellings in Fulton.
The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reports much time and effort are being put into moving the abandoned house a very short distance — about 200 yards.
Its current location on Main Street in Fulton is property owned by Fulton United Methodist Church, which needs the space for a new parsonage.
The new spot is owned by the City of Fulton, which took ownership of the house last year.
The house was recently designated as a Mississippi Landmark by the state Department of Archives and History.
Paula Cooper, one of the volunteers helping with the project, said the plan is to eventually restore the house and make it a visitors center.
