Biglanes’ sentencing for bribery rescheduled

LAUREL — Sentencing for a father and son from Laurel who pleaded guilty to trying to bribe Mississippi’s transportation director has been rescheduled for Oct. 17.

Kenneth Biglane and his son, Peter J. Biglane, pleaded guilty in July to bribery. They face maximum penalties of 10 years in prison each and a $250,000 fine.

The Laurel Leader Call reports they were sentenced this past week, but a judge agreed to reschedule when a family member was not able to attend.

Federal prosecutors say Kenneth Biglane in May 2009 offered Larry “Butch” Brown, then executive director of the Mississippi Department of Transportation, 25 percent kickbacks on all right of way contracts to his son’s company, OxPatch Resources, LLC.

Brown called authorities, which led to the Biglanes’ indictment.
